Social Media during LS

We know that tweeting, facebooking, instagraming, pinning and any other social media website or application that has recently turned into a verb is wildly popular with today’s collegians.

This blog post explores the social media fun we can all have during Leadership Seminar 2012, as well as, some social media 101 (scroll to the bottom now for a quick peek).

A tweet from Megan Garrison using the hashtag
#ADPiLS2012.

For those on Twitter be sure to follow @Alphadeltapi and IMPACT attendees follow @IMPACT_ADPi (coming soon!) for all the latest news and information. Tweet about the seminar using the hashtag #ADPiLS2012.The picture takers of the bunch could also use the same hashtag, #ADPiLS2012, in the captions of their Instagram pictures.

An Instagram post from one our EO interns. Follow her on
Instagram, her username is thekbarf.

Click on one of these hashtags and instantly see what the other LS attendees are saying about the seminar and what pictures they’re taking during the weekend.

For those attendees with Foursquare accounts, be on the lookout for foursquare check-ins. Adelphean Compass attendees don’t forget to also check-in on all the stops during your Saturday in Macon.

Smart phone users and IMPACT attendees, be sure to download the app Guidebook to have the seminar schedule at the tip of your fingertips.

Now we know that these social media outlets can be addicting but please be mindful and tuck your phones away during your sessions. We want to show all of our presenters, facilitators and other attendees respect and pay our upmost attention. Besides, it’s more fun anyway when you open your phone and see multiple notifications.

Are you addicted to social media? What social media tools will you use during the seminar? Tell us below in the comments!

 and now for some...

Social Media 101

Twitter- a social media community where members ‘tweet’ (post) statuses about anything and everything in 140 characters or less. Users ‘follow’ other users and tag them in posts by mentioning them.

Hashtag- a word or phrase preceded by the pound symbol (#). These words or phrases become clickable and when clicked lead to a group of posts all pertaining to the hashtag.

Instagram- a mobile application that allows users to share photos with other users. The pictures can go through a variety of different filters changing the look of the image. The idea of hashtags and mentioning applies in these photos captions.

Foursquare- a mobile application that allows users to ‘check-in’ to restaurants, shops and important locations. These ‘check-ins’ let the user’s friends know where the user has been and these can be connected to the user’s other social media accounts.

Guidebook- a mobile application that features schedules of events, interactive maps of the seminar and a social media aspect.
